The machine room lights are to be left on at all times. When there is no activity in the room, motion sensors will turn off most lights, leaving emergency lighting on.
The room is cooled by four Leibert air handling systems. They are, under no circumstances, to be manipulated by users of the machine room. These units are all maintained and centrally monitored by Facilities Management.
Three of these units should be capable of supplying the room with adequate cooling, should one of the units be off-line for maintenance or failure. Should a partial cooling system failure occur, however, it may become necessary for CSE Computing Support staff to request machine room users to shut down and turn off any systems not being actively used. In the case of a complete cooling system failure, the room’s Emergency Power Off system may be actuated.
Scheduled outages may occur as required for maintenance of the cooling systems.
