CSE Rises in New U.S. News and World Report Best Engineering School Rankings

UC San Diego’s graduate program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is ranked #11 in the newest U.S. News and World Report Graduate Program Rankings. UC San Diego has risen to its 11th spot in 2022 from #30 in 1994. And according to CSrankings.org, a metrics-based ranking of top computer science institutions in the world, UC San Diego ranks #4 in computer science research.

“These rankings show our commitment to educating the thought leaders of a digital tomorrow,” said CSE Department Chair Sorin Lerner. “It is a testament to the groundbreaking research and education in CSE, and the unwavering dedication of our faculty, students and staff.”

The other highly ranked doctoral programs in computer science and engineering at the UC San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering include: 

  • Computer Science, Programming Languages: #11 (up from #13)
  • Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence: #11
  • Computer Science, Theory: #12 (up from #14)  
  • Computer Engineering #13 (up from #16)

The latest ranking also placed the Jacobs School of Engineering #10 in the nation, which marks the third year in a row the school has been ranked within the top ten.
