Abstract: We discuss variations and applications of the random algebraic method introduced by Bukh. This is a powerful probabilistic technique whereby, in order to construct objects with some extremal property, one considers a random algebraic variety. We will see that in many situations using such a structured random object does considerably better than applying the classical probabilistic method.
