CSE alumnus Sheeraz Ahmad (Ph.D. ’15) focused on machine learning and its application in learning and decision-making problems faced by humans and artificial agents. Since graduation, he has been up in Redmond, WA, at Amazon, where he is a Research Scientist working on… machine learning. Ahmad put the word out this week that the Amazon AI Lab is eager to recruit Ph.D. students to apply for Machine Learning Scientist Internships. The lab has multiple internship positions available in Seattle and Palo Alto. “Our projects span the gamut of recommender systems, streaming data analysis, natural language understanding, deep learning, bandit algorithms, record matching, reinforcement learning, causal inference, dialog management, and more,” notes Ahmad.

Overall, he adds that Amazon “has exciting and challenging machine learning problems that are motivated by real-world questions. The applied context provides ample opportunity for the design of novel algorithms and rich data is readily available to test algorithms. We seek Ph.D. students who are eager both to design ML systems and to understand how they work on real data.”

Ph.D. students can contact the CSE alumnus for more information via email at asheeraz@amazon.com. If you want to apply, however, all candidates must complete the online application form at https://www.amazon.jobs/en/jobs/560711 and send an email to research-opportunities@amazon.com with a copy of your CV. For best consideration for summer internships, apply by January 31, 2018. Amazon supports equal opportunity and diversity.
