Building Access (Keys/ID cards)

If you need access to the CSE building or any of the offices within the CSE building, you will need to have your ID card programmed into the building lock system and possibly pick up a key (if you have an office in the building).

Our facilities manager, Matthew Scott, takes care of lock programming and key distribution. To have your ID card programmed into the system, please send a request to csehelp@cs.ucsd.edu or to pick up a key, you may stop by the CSEHelp offices during the office hours listed below and ask for Dave.

The CSEHelp offices are located on the first floor of the CSE building. From the lobby on the first floor, go down the hall that leads behind the elevators. You will see a door labeled CSEHelp. Press the doorbell button at that door and ask for Dave Wargo.

ID card access

Access to the CSE building and the various semi-public rooms within the building are controlled by card-swipe locks.  To get your ID card programmed into the system, please send a request to csehelp@cs.ucsd.edu.  Please include your:

  • first name
  • last name
  • JSOE/gmail address
  • affiliation with the department (faculty, grad, postdoc, etc)
  • student or staff ID number (it should printed on your card)

Faculty, staff and graduate students will be given access to the outside doors, the small conference rooms and the Master's Commons (formerly APE lab). Access to additional rooms will be provided on an as needed and approved basis.

Key access

Keys are only used for individual offices and PhD student lab offices. You must be assigned to a particular room for a key to be issued to you.  The building Facilities Manager (Matthew Scott, part of CSEhelp) takes care of key distribution.

To pick up a key, you may stop by the CSEHelp offices Matt, or make an appointment by sending mail to building@cs.ucsd.edu or csehelp@cs.ucsd.edu (both these addresses create tickets in our trouble-ticket system).

The CSEHelp offices are located on the first floor of the CSE building. From the lobby on the first floor, go down the hall that leads behind the elevators. You will see a door labeled CSEHelp. Press the doorbell button at that door and ask for Matthew Scott.

Locked Out

If you get locked out of a room, you can contact CSEHelp or the campus police ((858) 534-4357) for assistance. You will need to provide a photo ID to confirm your identity when being let into a room.
