Triton Days

Welcome to the CSE department!

In addition to rigorous and cutting-edge courses, Computer Science and Engineering students at UC San Diego have access to opportunities for learning outside of the classroom, and support along the way.

Triton Day 2021

These live sessions from the Jacobs School of Engineering and the Computer Science & Engineering department were recorded in Spring 2021.

Programs and Events for Admitted Undergraduate Students

The IDEA Engineering Student Center is dedicated to increasing the application and acceptance rate of undergraduate and graduate students from historically underrepresented groups, including economically and socially disadvantaged students, in the Jacobs School of Engineering.

Admitted students can participate in a series of programs, activities, and events with other newly admitted engineering major students at UC San Diego, providing opportunities for participants to get to know other students, as well as gain familiarity with the student programs and services offered to engineering students at the Jacobs School of Engineering.

 Research, Internships, and Other Opportunities

Students cannot simply rely on their completed coursework to help them acquire a job after they graduate. One of the most significant opportunities CSE majors at UC San Diego have is the ability to do research with world-renowned faculty or complete exciting internships with well known or start-up companies. Students may receive academic credit for participating in research or internships.

SWELL

One of the great things about attending UC San Diego is that there are so many resources available to help students through their educational journey. However, we know that going to a new campus, especially one as large as UC San Diego can be a bit overwhelming to navigate, especially in your first year. That is why we have created a program specifically for our first-year students: Students Who Engage, Learn and Lead (SWELL). The SWELL Program is open to all incoming CSE freshmen and CSE transfer students. The program is designed to engage first-year CSE students with the CSE department and UCSD community and to foster student involvement throughout their first academic year.

Student Organizations

Joining a student organization is a great way to get involved with the UCSD community, meet like-minded people, and participate in activities that prepare you for life after college. Check out this video for more information about one of the CSE Student Orgs, WIC (Women in Computing), and click the link above to explore some of the other student organizations within the Jacobs School of Engineering.

Academic Advising

Throughout their education at UC San Diego, students are supported by faculty and professional staff each step of the way.  Each student at UC San Diego will have a college advisor and major advisor. In the CSE department, you will have an assigned professional undergraduate advisor to assist you with understanding your major requirements and learning about various experiential learning opportunities we believe to be important in supporting your long term goals. Undergraduate students may also meet with CSE Faculty for additional mentoring and advising.

OSD

We are proud to welcome and support students from various backgrounds with different learning needs and abilities. UC San Diego's Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) Office works with students with documented disabilities to review documentation and determine reasonable accommodations. Disabilities can occur in numerous areas, and may occur at any time during a student’s college career. The CSE Department encourages you to contact the OSD Office as soon as you become aware of a condition that is disabling so that we can work with you.
