Advanced Placement Credit in Computer Science

2010 updates: As of Fall 2010 the Advanced Placement Computer Science (AP CS) AB Exam is no longer offered.  Students will only be able to take the A Exam.  A score of 4 or 5 on the CS A Exam exempts students from CSE 8A and CSE 8AL.

 Computer Science

A (Java Programming) - 2 units

AB (Java Programming, and Data Structures and Object-Oriented Programming) 4 units

(4-unit maximum for both tests)

 Score of 4 on A = exempt CSE 8A and CSE 8AL; Student should take CSE 11.

Score of 5 on A = exempt of CSE 11

Score of 4 or 5 on AB = exempt CSE 11

Score of 5 on AB = exempt CSE 12 with departmental approval

 1 course of a noncontigous area of focus.

Score of 3 or 4 on A or AB exam = elective units.

 2-4 units elective credit.  AB exam = 1 course toward mathematics/ computer/ statistics requirement.  A exam: 2 units of elective credit;

score of 4 on AB exam;

score of 5 on AB exam meets 1 course toward Formal skills requirement or Science and Technology PofC.

 A exam = 2 units elective credit AB exam = 1 of 2 courses quantitative/ formal skills requirement.  1 course toward Computing Requirements.
