Advancing Education and Innovation in the Computer Science and Engineering Department
Inspiring Imaginations is a $25 million, three-year initiative for the Computer Science and Engineering Department. The initiative is designed to improve the undergraduate experience via infrastructure improvements and increased funding for student support, faculty and programs.
Inspiring Imaginations Initiative
- Increased program resources for tutoring, mentoring and engaging students in entrepreneurial education offerings.
- A $5 million, 7,000 square foot building expansion and outfitting project includes the creation of a new Design Innovation Center complete with hands-on design labs, common meeting areas, state-of-the art lab equipment. Video of new design.
- New CSE endowed faculty chairs will be established in an effort to recruit top talent from around the world.
Inspiring Imaginations began its silent phase in 2012 and was publicly launched in June 2013, having exceeded the halfway mark with over $18.5 million in gifts received. (Read about the $18.5 million gift from an anonymous computer science alumnus here.)
Successful completion of the Inspiring Imaginations initiative will position the Computer Science and Engineering Department to increase its level of excellence in teaching, research and outreach through the year 2020 and well beyond.
“As computer science educators, it is our job to build on the seemingly magical advances in knowledge discovery from data learning tools that have caught the imaginations of young talent. We must offer a curriculum and a physical learning environment for our undergraduate students that captures their imaginations, fuels their curiosity and provides them with the skills and tools necessary to make the future.” Rajesh Gupta, CSE Chair
